“Who are you looking for?” Conrad looked over his shoulder at the random people milling about behind the auditorium seating. Cora kept looking over her shoulder, but Saucy was seated in the front row.

“Peggy. I thought she might drop by tonight with the dress she altered. I wanted to see how things are going with her hunt for the costumes.”

“Has she asked Eleanor about it?” Conrad pointed toward the stage. “She may know if there are old costumes at the school.”

“No, I don’t think she has. She mentioned it, but I suggested she not do that. At least not right away. Olive is a touchy topic with Eleanor. They were not friends.”

Conrad nodded. “Saucy doesn’t appear to be doing anything in this play. I’m not sure why he comes to rehearsals. He just sits there and watches them.”

“I know I can’t understand it! He must have a very small part. I don’t know anything about this play, so I don’t know what part he could have.”

“What’s it called again?” Conrad frowned. She had told him more than once, but he couldn’t remember.

“Murder in the Heir. H-E-I-R.”

“Maybe he’s the guy that gets murdered?”

“Perhaps! That would be a great part for him. No lines to learn!”

“But you don’t really need to rehearse for that.” Conrad chuckled.

“Maybe he has a brief scene where he dies on stage and that’s all.”

“That could be.” Conrad nodded. “Here comes Eleanor.”

“Good evening, Cora. Chief.”

“Hi, Eleanor.” Cora reached out her hand to stop her. “Can you tell me what role Saucy has this time? He’s not been performing tonight.”

“No, the part we’re working on tonight isn’t his scene. He doesn’t have too many lines this time.” Eleanor smiled, aware of Saucy’s opening night anxiety from previous plays.

“Is he the guy that gets murdered?” Cora turned in her seat.

“No. That’s Reuben Hobbs, Francine’s husband. You know Reuben, don’t you?” Eleanor looked around the room. “I don’t see him at the moment, but he was here.”

“Yes, I know them. So, what part does Saucy play?”

Eleanor smiled and turned to walk down the aisle. “You’ll have to come to the play and find out!”

“That woman is exasperating!” Cora scrunched up her nose and squeezed her eyes shut as Conrad chuckled.

“Do you have your tickets for the show?”

“Of course, I do, for both of us. Center aisle, fifth row. Right where I like to sit.”

“Well, then,” Conrad held his hands out. “We’ll find out then.”

“That’s not the point and you know it!”

Conrad swallowed his laughter. “Here comes Peggy. She’s coming down the aisle.”

Cora turned in her seat to stop her. “You have the dress done?”

“I do. Hi Chief.”

Conrad nodded his hello.

Cora lifted the plastic and looked at the bottom of the dress. Peggy had cleaned it and tucked the bottom ruffle up to hem it. She removed the ruffles on the bodice and replaced it with blue satin ribbon. “It’s lovely.”

“Thank you.”

“Is that my dress?” Nina walked up and peeked under the plastic. “I love it! I can even wear that after the play is over!”

“I’m glad you like it.
